Hungrrr vs Flipdish: Which Restaurant Ordering Platform Is Better?
Hungrrr and Flipdish both sell branded online ordering to restaurants and takeaways. For most operators, Flipdish is the better pick. It does more (POS, kiosks, AI phone ordering, marketing), it handles multi-site groups properly, and it has a longer track record in the UK and Ireland.
If all you want is a website that takes orders for one shop, the gap is smaller. Here's where the two actually differ.
What is Hungrrr?
Hungrrr is a UK online ordering platform aimed mainly at independent restaurants, takeaways and small chains. You get a branded website and app for direct orders, some loyalty features and basic reporting. That's most of it.
What is Flipdish?
Flipdish is a restaurant technology company. It sells POS, online ordering, branded mobile apps, self-service kiosks, AI phone ordering, payments and customer engagement tools. It works with independents, chains and large multi-location groups in the UK, Ireland and further afield.

The top two rows, plus payments, are where the products overlap. Most of the rest is Flipdish on its own.
Online ordering
Both let you take orders through your own branded website, so you aren't handing a cut of every order to a marketplace. You own the customer and you pay a platform fee instead of a commission. Same idea on both.
Flipdish's online ordering system has been around longer and runs across thousands of locations in several countries. It has been through a lot of busy Friday and Saturday nights, and that counts for more than a feature list when the ordering page has to stay up at 7pm.
Hungrrr does the same job for smaller independents. The ordering works. The platform around it is narrower.
One practical thing to check with either of them: how menu changes work. If you run out of something mid-service, how fast does it come off the website? Who can do it? Can you do it from your phone? Ask them to show you during the demo.
Mobile apps
Both give you branded iOS and Android apps.
Flipdish's branded mobile apps come with loyalty, push notifications and customer engagement built in. App orders land in the same system as kiosk, phone and in-store orders, so a customer who orders on the app on Tuesday and walks in on Saturday is one customer in your data. Not two.
Hungrrr's apps cover ordering and some loyalty. They aren't tied into a wider set of channels in the same way.
An app only earns its keep if people download it and keep coming back. Push notifications and loyalty are what bring them back. If those are basic, the app ends up being a slightly nicer version of the website sitting on someone's phone.
POS
This is the biggest difference between the two.
Hungrrr doesn't have its own POS. If you use Hungrrr for online orders, you need a POS from someone else. That means two suppliers, two bills and an integration in the middle that has to keep working. When it doesn't, orders go missing on the way to the kitchen, or someone ends up reading them off a tablet and keying them into the till by hand.
Flipdish has its own restaurant POS system that sits alongside the online ordering. A customer orders on the app and the order shows up in the kitchen on the same POS that handles walk-ins. There's no integration to maintain between separate platforms.
If you're doing any real volume online on top of in-house trade, this matters a lot. Two systems cost more than one, and they break in more places. When something goes wrong at 8pm on a Saturday, you have one support line to ring, not two suppliers each telling you it's the other one's problem.
Reporting gets simpler too. With one system, the day's sales are in one place. With two, someone is pulling the POS report and the online ordering report and trying to make the numbers match.
Self-service kiosks
Hungrrr doesn't offer kiosks.
Flipdish has self-service kiosks for QSRs and fast-casual restaurants. During peaks they take pressure off the counter, and staff can work in the kitchen or look after customers instead of standing at the till taking orders. Customers ordering on a screen, with no queue breathing down their neck, tend to add more to the order.
For a sit-down restaurant or a delivery-only takeaway, kiosks may not matter at all. For a busy counter-service site, they're one of the more useful things on this list.
AI phone ordering
Hungrrr doesn't offer AI phone ordering.
Flipdish has an AI phone agent that answers the phone and takes orders with no staff involved. Takeaways and pizza shops still get a lot of orders by phone. At peak times those calls either pull someone off the line or ring out. A missed call on a Friday night is usually a lost order.
The AI agent picks up the calls, takes the order and sends it through like any other order. You spend less on staff answering the phone and miss fewer calls.
Multi-location management
Hungrrr can run more than one location, but it was built for independents. Keeping menus, prices and promotions in line across lots of sites gets fiddly.
Flipdish is built for multi-site. From one dashboard you can manage menus, pricing, promotions and customer data across a large estate. Change the price of a large pepperoni once and it changes everywhere, or only at the sites you pick. Flipdish works with larger chains and franchise groups. Hungrrr doesn't have those relationships.
If you have one shop and no plans for a second, skip this section. If you're thinking about a second site, it's the section that should worry you most. Moving platforms after you've grown is a lot more work than picking the right one before you do.
Pricing
Neither publishes full pricing. Both charge platform fees, not per-order marketplace commissions.
Hungrrr is usually cheaper on headline cost, and you get fewer features for it. Flipdish pricing reflects a bigger platform: POS, ordering, kiosks, AI and marketing tools are available alongside online ordering.
Headline price is the wrong thing to compare. Look at cost per order across every channel. Then factor in what you save by moving orders off marketplaces and what you gain from bigger average orders on your own channels. If Hungrrr is cheaper but you still need a separate POS, add the POS cost, and the hassle of dealing with two suppliers, before you compare.
Questions to ask both of them:
- What's the monthly fee, and what's included?
- What are the card processing rates?
- Is there a setup fee or hardware cost?
- How long is the contract, and what does it cost to leave?
- What else will I need to buy from someone else to run the whole restaurant?
The last question is where the gap usually shows up.
Support and track record
Flipdish gives you dedicated onboarding and ongoing account management, whether you have one site or a large chain. Its UK and Ireland operations are well established.
Hungrrr offers support too. It's a smaller company with fewer people behind it.
You find out how much that matters the first time something breaks. Ask each of them what their support hours are, and what happens if your ordering goes down at 9pm on a Saturday.
If you're already on Hungrrr
If you're on Hungrrr now and thinking of moving, sort out a few things before you sign anything new.
Check your contract first. Find out the notice period and whether there's an exit fee, so you know your actual switch date.
Find out who owns your domain. If your ordering site runs on your own web address, you want to be the one who controls it, so you can point it at the new platform. If the supplier registered it for you, ask them to transfer it.
Ask for your customer data. Names, emails and order history are what let you market to your regulars on the new platform. Get an export, and check what you're allowed to use under the marketing consent your customers gave.
Think about the app. Customers who already have your branded app on their phone will need to update or download the new one. Plan a push notification or an offer to move them over, so you don't lose your best customers in the gap.
Then line up the menu. Rebuilding a menu with all its modifiers, sizes and extras takes longer than it looks. Get it done and tested before the switch, not on the day.
Which should you choose?
Hungrrr could suit you if you're a small independent on a tight budget, you only want online ordering, and you don't expect to grow much or open more sites.
For most operators, Flipdish is the better choice. If you want one platform for online ordering, POS, kiosks, AI phone ordering and marketing, with a track record across serious restaurant groups, go with Flipdish.
If you have plans beyond one location or one channel, Hungrrr's limits will start to bite as you grow.
Why Flipdish is the better long-term platform
It comes down to how much of the restaurant one platform covers. Lots of companies can put an ordering page on a website now. The advantage comes from running every order channel in one place, seeing what customers do across all of them, and using that to get them back through the door.
Flipdish's AI platform connects ordering data, customer data and marketing. When those sit together, you can spot a regular who has stopped ordering and send them something. A platform that only sees its own website orders can't join those dots.
Operators who move to Flipdish from simpler ordering platforms find it pays for itself through more direct orders, less reliance on marketplaces and less time spent juggling systems.
